OUR SATO

It Starts with High Quality Aquifer Water 

 

Bangmakok Sato is brewed from the finest Thai rice grown in the rich fields of upcountry Thailand. It has been produced in accordance with the centuries-old tradition of Thailand, using over 10 kinds of indigenous herbs and spices. The brewery's neighbourhood has been famous for evergreen forest aquifer water of high quality, an essential ingredient for Sato brewing. 

 

A Consummate Blend of Age-Old Artisanal Method with Modern Know-How 

 

Our Sato master's family has been crafting exquisite Sato for many generations. Currently we produce Sato in a small batch utilizing a consummate blend of age- old artisanal method of Sato making with modern technology. We also collaborate with food scientists from external laboratory for product testing and analysis to ensure  highest quality and safety of our Sato rice wine products. 

 

Richest Soil, Favourable Climate and Best Quality of Rice and Ingredients

 

The components of our Sato have been meticulously crafted to complement one another synergistically and speak eloquently of its rich heritage. We only use the best quality of ingredients for our Sato crafting. Thailand, with the richest soils and most favourable climate for rice farming, has been the world's number one rice exporting country for decades. And Sisaket, where our brewery is located, and its nearby provinces are the famous areas for high-quality rice growing in Thailand.  

 

Sato in Four Styles 

 

Our Bangmakok labels are available in four different styles, all with 11% alcohol by volume: 

 

AMRITA (white): Amrita is a Thai word meaning elixir of life. Our Amrita Sato is rich and flavorsome with light sweetness. Available in 750 ml. 

 

HANSA (white): Hansa is a Thai word meaning joy.  The wine has a harmonious fusion of bitter-sweetness, acidity, astringency, and a pleasantly peppery finish. Available in 750 ml. 

 

TIPAYA (rosé): Tipaya is rosé Sato rice wine brewed from superb black and white rice varieties. Black rice was once considered the Chinese Emperor's rice and it was forbidden for commoner in ancient China to eat it. Tipaya is a Thai word which means belonging to celestial beings. The wine is well-balanced with refreshing astringency. Available in 750 ml.

 

SUKONTARA (white): Sukontara is a Thai word meaning stream of fragrance.  The wine is medium dry with a delightful hint of botanicals and spice. Available in 750 ml. 

 

A picture of traditional Thai basket called "Kradong" printed on the front label adds a classy touch of Thainess to the Sato bottle. The "Kradong" basket has been used for rice winnowing in Thailand for over a thousand year. 

 

 

Serving &Storing: 

 

Similar to white wine, Sato is served chilled. It can be enjoyed on its own or as an accompaniment to meals. Our bottle of Sato is delicious drinking now and can be cellared for up to 18 months after bottling date. You may also refrigerate Sato bottle to extend its storage life. Once open, Sato should be consumed within 7 days. Use of vacuum pump or inert gas is recommended as it can help preserve the wine longer 

 

Looking Forward

 

Thai culinary arts during the past centuries, while well recognized for its identity and heritage, has long been open for new ingredients and innovative methods acquired from other cultures. To continue this creative spirit and open tradition, we are in the process of research and development to craft a new edition of Thai-style rice wine using  ingredients from countries in other parts of the world. 

 

Sato and A Sense of Place 

 

Sato's character came from a place, from the specific terroir, embracing not only soils and geological conditions but also the micro-climate that includes air, rainfall, water drainage, sunlight, and temperature. Think about how many years the aquifer water has been waiting over the bedrock until it was drawn up for Sato brewing. Think about what was going on the year the rice was growing; what the weather was like; how the sun was shining; if it rained a lot; or whether there were floods. Terroir is indeed the voice of the land.
